How To Do Wet Tapping

By Sarah Wallace

Water is usually connected using pipes and in many occasions might require diversion. While doing this, the main channel should be left functioning normally. There are machines that have been made to make these procedures possible. They drill into an in-service with least wastage. A cut is made into a reservoir, pipeline or any channel that contains water under pressure. Wet tapping is mainly concerned with water or sewage diversion.

This is the most practical procedure for connecting a pipe to an already existing channel. Sleeves are needed for the tapping of a channel. The valve is attached to the sleeve in the procedure. After that has been done, the machine used to do the cutting is joined to the valve. The machine extends beyond the valve via an extendable crank. With this setup, the machine goes past the sleeve.

The essential part to do the final job is the cutter and drill bit. Both are connected to the beam. The cutter engraves the conduit to make the place of diversion to the new pipe. While doing this, the material that is separated is lifted out using a technically built mechanism in the drill bit. This helps remove the unwanted material safely from the system. The valve closes as the machine is detached. This is when all the steps are followed accordingly. Chances of the reverse occurring can be anticipated.

There are a number of reasons why this procedure could go wrong. This could be due to inexperienced personnel and use piping material that is not recommended for tapping. The most common reason for an error to occur is using material and equipment that are incompatible. For you to do away with the most common problem, one should hire services from one installer, especially the larger diameter sizes.

This activity can be observed in most cases around commercial and residential areas. This can be permanent or temporary according to preference. The main goal of this exercise is pipe plugging. It gives room for change, repair, and maintenance of the conduits. If conducted correctly, there is a minimal interruption.

Many materials that are used in piping cannot be tapped. Materials that allow tapping are those made of cast iron, ductile iron and carbon steel. There are other materials that welding is not possible. These materials will, therefore, require an additional intervention for the diversion to be done. Using a bolt-on tapping fitting perfectly solves the problem. These joints will be used to make a joint for diversion.

Typically, the procedure is concerned with diverting pipes that carry a liquid. These liquids are sewage and water. Care should be taken to minimize the chances of losing the product or ultimately polluting the environment. This is because, wherever the procedure is being carried out, people live there or there is a commercial activity.

The best part of this procedure is that the pipes do not have volatile material. There are limited accidents regarding this particular practice. Hydra-tapper is a unique device that is used in this exercise. It is flexible and has excellent performance on pipes with varying diameters. It has a hydraulic drive.
