Can Your Cell Phone Charger Portland Help Save The Planet?

By Gary Wilson

The other week my wife and I went to get new mobile phone, and after we were done, I immediately went back to the counter and reported that someone just stole my wallet. The sales associate asked me, 'How did you lose your wallet so quickly?' I then said, "You are the ones who stole it!!" While this story isn't all fiction it does address a problem that I have seen, there are just way too many cell phone charger Portland out there.

If you're concerned that your older charger may be contributing to the demise of the planet, there's a simple way to test it. Just plug it in and feel if it becomes warm to the touch after a few minutes. This usually indicates that it is a linear power supply, which tends to be larger, bulky, and less capable of turning alternating current from the power grid into direct current that can be utilized by household appliances.

The best-known of the windmill types is the Solio. The three mini solar panels fan out to gain the most of the sun's rays, while being small enough to fit in a bag or pocket when folded closed. This device gets good reviews, though most note that it must be in full sunlight to charge properly and cannot be placed on its side once opened. It features a built-in battery, which is a nice feature and adds greatly to the Solio's utility.

Folding them is particularly important for large-sized panels, rendering them more powerful compared to the windmill kinds. When closed, they readily and easily fold into a bag for transport and storage. A popular brand is the Power Monkey explorer. This line is a bit pricey, however, and the Power Monkey is no exception. Users give these brand stellar reviews on the Earthtech Products site, so if you really need a reliable one, these deserve your consideration.

As you know when there is a problem there are often opportunities made available for a market and niche to be worked. This problem with so many types of cell handset chargers has opened up the market for some companies like Zap, Portable Energy LLC to create such products that help the consumer out.

Many people use a power strip for conserving power when appliances are not in use. All you have to do is plug your appliances into the power strip and then turn off the power strip when they are not in use. Of course, the easiest way to save energy when using cell phone chargers is to unplug them when you're not charging the receiver. This is such a simple step, especially if you own an old cell phone, and it can make a difference in the long run.

With some chargers the problem of inefficiency while charging is more prominent than how much energy usage occurs if they are left plugged into the wall. As a result, the EPA is taking note and paying attention to the issue of chargers and energy preservation. Some chargers transfer less than half the energy they consume to the actual cell phone. The rest is heat.

As usual, there are many who prefer to make their own solar chargers and articles and instructions are easily found online if that is your preference. Check out the site Instructables, where you will find directions from others who prefer do-it-yourself.
