A large number of people have vinyl record collections and will use a record deck to play them on. CD's and digital downloads are much more common these days and locating spares for record players can be difficult if you do not know where to look. If you are searching for a replacement turntable stylus there are various options available to you after a little research.

A high quality stylus is an essential component of a record deck as it picks up the audio from the grooves in the vinyl record. A badly worn or damaged needle will not produce a good quality sound for the listener and it can cause severe damage to your records. There are various types of needle or cartridge and it is very important that you buy and fit one that is suitable for your deck.

One of the best places to locate a replacement stylus is from a professional audio dealer in the local area. Many of these retailers will have a good stock of needles and cartridges for old and modern turntables. If they do not have what you need they can probably order one from the factory and you can collect or have it sent to you.

The internet can also be a useful place to locate a needle for a record player and there are many web based retailers that can supply one. After browsing their list of stock against your serial numbers, they will usually be able to find a suitable match. Some companies can do a search from a good photograph of your stylus if you do not have the serial number.

If you are unable to locate a needle from a retailer you can try one of the online auction sites. Many needles will be listed and you will probably be able to find one that is compatible with your equipment for a very good price. If you are not sure if it will be suitable, you can contact the seller and ask them about the item, before you place any bids.

A great place to find old audio kit and parts is a junk shop or nearly new store which can be found in many towns. Many of these outlets will have old and modern equipment in there stores or on shelves and you can often find a suitable match. If you do get lucky, and you find parts for your deck, it is worth buying the record player for spares.

If the manufacturer of your record deck is still in business it is advisable to purchase your replacement from them. If they do not make your model any longer, they may still supply you with items for it. They will also advise you where to search for compatible parts if they can not help.

After locating a suitable replacement needle, it can worth buying a few if they are available. All record player cartridges or styluses will suffer wear after a period of time and you should keep some spares for future replacements. When you are not installing a new stylus to your record deck immediately, then it should be kept in the packaging to prevent it from damage or loss.
