A Checklist For Choosing A Commercial Draft Beer Equipment Supplier

By Kenneth Edwards

You probably landed on this article right now because you are doing some research prior to your opening up a sports bar in the near future. Part of any decent sports bar is the ability to serve ice cold beer, and you are probably in the market for commercial draft beer equipment at the very moment. Therefore it may be a good idea to read on in this article for some ideas for a supplier.

Prepare a checklist beforehand, for this will come in quite handy. Having a checklist will help in making you keep track of things covered and uncovered in your search and is a handy little memory assistant. Always use a checklist in your money spending decisions.

Reputation will play a big part in your choice of provider of beer equipment. If possible do as the local bar operators for suggestions, if they are or want to be that helpful. You can also look at local industry forums and ask from there also if you want.

The provision of on site installation is of prime importance, and should be a service placed on top of the price, and free if possible. This is very much needed if you are talking of specialist commercial equipment like growler filling stations, kegerators and glycol cooling systems among others. You will need such equipment to be professionally installed and not just sold and dropped off at your doorstep.

Free transportation will always be welcome, especially for big items that you buy. Some suppliers do provide free transport up to a certain distance, but may charge a little more if it exceeds their minimum distance. Always go for the supplier that does provide such a service.

It is also well and good if the supplier is also willing to give you training on the use of the equipment that you have just bought. Training of you and your staff who will be using what you just bought will ensure that no breakage or stoppage occurs due to poor use or misuse. Training should be given on maintenance as well, like coupling and decoupling of kegs and hoses, cleaning of beer hoses and dismantling and installation of handles and such.

Warranties on the items that you buy should be present. Some suppliers will renege on giving warranties and saying they only buy and sell the items. Do not accept this excuse and try to at least get a one year guarantee that they have sold you quality items and that they will not break. Always protect your rights as a consumer in anything that you buy, whether for personal use or for use in your business.

Price is also something that should be agreeable to you. If it is a bit steep in the beginning, try to work out some form of payment or financing scheme with your prospective supplier. A good and well respected supplier will try to help you with this and understand you need some leeway as a new business operator. In fact this is because if you succeed, they will succeed also.
