The Eastern Red Cedar Lumber, A Very Popular Tree Product

By Michelle Jackson

Even before man first exited from the safety of cave dwellings, plants and trees already abound in the earth. As man evolved and learned to make tools from this, it became an integral part of existence. Man eventually made fire out of it. Weapons and other implements were fashioned to serve mans needs. Abodes made of it soon sprang as man became more skill in using tools. Empire rose and fell with the use of this as beams and planks. End products from this resource have been a part of civilization from past to present. One of the most used types is the Eastern red cedar lumber.

Plant life in this world is very varied and consists of several types which include the trees. Modern biologists generally classify these as those whose seeds have only one embryo and those that have two. These are also classified into two groups. Usually fruit bearing trees and decorative trees including palms belong to one group and the pines belong to another. Others also differentiate between hardwood and softwood.

The converted material comes in many shapes and forms. Cork boards, ply boards, plywood, moldings are few examples of this conversion. This is true no matter what type it comes from. There are studies that establish classification that serves as a guide for what is the best for a given project.

In modern times, with the technology we now have, timber can be converted into lumber in so many ways using different processes. Some types need chemical treatment to improve its quality. Others though do not need to be treated as these possess natural insect and fungi repelling smell. Rarely can we find now raw logs that are sun dried except in remote areas where usage is for fuel.

Methods of harvesting have changed with the use of modern machinery and power tools. River and lakes are used as transport avenues to this day. Haulers and big trucks also bring the harvests to the processing center where conversion to takes place. Transporting by volume is easy today with the use of modern systems.

Make some research before purchasing something. Information about standards can be easily found on the internet. Find out what kind would be best for what it is intended for and make price comparison among distributors nearest the place for its intended use. Take note of the company reputation.

The converted product is used in a wide array for buildings. It can be used as the main building material for a house. It does well as a fence. Many firms use it as temporary supports. Many examples of items made from this material can be seen in any home in the form of furniture, cabinets, ceilings, moldings. Furniture shops also use large quantities of these to produce quality furniture.

The extensive use of boards and poles has taken a toll on thickets. Great forests have become denuded and barren. Governments are now concerned about this since woodlands prevent soil erosion. Many programs have been implemented to correct this situation. National parks have been established and more forest areas have been declared as protected zones. Several business entities also embark on planting activities to replace cut ones.

The use of synthetic materials as an alternative is strongly being encouraged in the present. This is to minimize the damage being done to woodlands. More and more areas are being converted to residential lots. This has adverse effect on the tree population and corrections are in place to address it. There is a symbiotic relationship among all living things, the tree is no exception.
