Golf Course Builders Plan And Develop Different Types Of Links

By Henry Ross

Golfing is one of this world's favorites pastimes. Many men and women are passionate about the sport and enjoy spending free time on their local fairways. It may have a reputation as a wealthy person's recreation, but golf course builders develop all kinds of links for different segments of the population. Not all of the work they do is for the most privileged.

One of the most economical ways to enjoy the sport is to take advantage of the municipal courses located in cities and towns around the country. These properties are owned by local governments and are made available to everyone regardless of where they live. They are usually open during the spring, summer, and fall months depending on the weather conditions. These are not complicated or especially challenging courses, but they are affordable and open to everybody.

Public courses are also available and are usually privately owned. It might cost a little more to spend time on the links at one of these establishments, but they also tend to be more challenging and complicated. A lot of times you can buy a bucket of balls and practice your swing and putting skills in areas specifically designated for that purpose.

If you belong to the local country club, your membership dues probably allow you to use their course whenever you want to. There may be nominal green fees and other expenses associated with a round, especially if you want to rent a cart or engage the services of the club pro. Most of these clubs allow members to invite guests to play for an additional fee.

Some resorts throughout the world are best known for their fabulous golf courses. Guests plan their vacations around the tournaments and championships that are played there and love to try their hands at the unique fairways and tricky greens. The public can often participate in golfing here, but the guests have first choice when it comes to tee times and discounted green fees.

Business meetings and corporate negotiations often take place on the golf course. There are executive courses designed for just this type of play. They may be nine or eighteen holes, but the fairways are generally shorter, and there are fewer four and five par holes throughout. In this way, participants can enjoy a round of play without spending the entire day on the links.

There are approach courses that are great places for beginners to get a feel for the game. Their fairways are shorter and easier to master. It is also a good place for weekend and occasional golfers to practice swings and putting. Of course you can always find nine hole courses that are quick and easy. You might even want to play more than one round on one of these properties.

Golfing is something many people participate in throughout their lives. It is a great sport for young people as well as senior citizens. You don't have to be a professional athlete to enjoy the challenge of a tricky fairway or the possibility of a hole in one.
