Essentials Of Cable Handling Equipment

By Larry Taylor

Data cables give the connection between the computer system and its hardware components. These cables are used for communication of the computer with other computers. There are different companies out there producing different qualities of data cables. Many firms are now offering cable handling equipment.

When you want to get them, you will be required to check on some characteristics to determine their quality. The outer cover is one of the things one tests on the wires. These are the outer cover of protecting the shielding and the inner conductors. The jacket is made up of different materials that include the PVC, low smoke zero halogens (LSZH), Teflon and the plenum.

The low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) has thermoplastic compound used to lower the level of toxic and corrosive gasses emitted during combustion. This material is used around the areas that are not ventilated well. It has the temperature of -20 to 80 degrees Celsius; it is gaining popularity in military contractors.

The other material on the jacket is the lower smoke zero halogens (LSZH). It contains the thermoplastic compound that reduces the level of cohesiveness and toxic fumes that are released when combustion takes place. LSZH is mostly used in regions that are not well ventilated. Its temperature is between -20 to 80 degrees Celsius.

The other material of wire that is resistant to flame is plenum. During combustion, they emit corrosive gasses that are also toxic. The plenum cables are preferred in fire extinguishers since they are good in the circulation of air.it is made up of different materials like the PVC and Teflon thus making it have the temperature that varies because of different materials utilized in making it.

The shield option quality is metallic layer on the conductors, and under the cables jackets, this layer helps in prevents electrostatic from affecting the external devices and the wires. This electrostatic is caused by the data that is corrupt as it is transmitted by computer cables. The electromagnetic interference that occurs on cables is due to switches, motors and fan.

The shield option characteristics in cables are identified as the metallic layer that is placed over the conductors and under the cables jackets to prevent electrostatic between the external devices and wires that may corrupt the data being transmitted by the cables in computers. The switches, fans and motors are the external devices that cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the wires.

The spiral shield is third type of shield option. They are just like the double shield, but the stranded wires are interwoven to form spirals. The spiral shield has excellent EMI thus used in high flexible cables.
