A Look Into Solder Reflow Ovens

By Gregory Cole

There have been a number of developments over the years in the electronics industry. This has made the use of solder reflow ovens even more popular. It is used for mounting electronic parts to circuit boards.

These ovens come in various forms; they involve convection and infrared ovens. This one has a number of zones whose individual temperatures are individually controlled. It can either contain one or more cooling zones and one heating zone. A conveyor belt aids the movement of the printed circuit board, where it is passed through a controlled amount of temperature. Infrared heaters are the ones that normally produce heat by radiation. Nitrogen is usually induced into the chamber to prevent oxidation from occurring.

In the vapor phase model, heat is generated from the heating of a specific liquid. The assemblies do not overheat and thus temperatures are effectively regulated. In addition, no nitrogen is needed since the soldering is already free of oxygen.

Two methods can be used to convey the printed circuit board, that is using the belt conveyor or pin conveyor. The belt is usually made from stainless steel since it is non-corrosive. In the edge conveyor, the board is held by its edges and passed through in a straight line. Both techniques are effective since they allow the free flow of air.

In some circuits, oxygen should not come into contact with some of the components because it would result in oxidation. For this reason, nitrogen is constantly passed through the system to prevent the occurrence of oxidation.

The temperature can be controlled using two methods, the first one being PC control. Here, the plugs of the oven are plugged into a laptop or PC. The advantage of using this method is that it provides the user with a rich visual of the graphic interface. The other method is on-board control, which is mostly preferred because it does not require any external sources like a PC. This means that it can function perfectly on its own. It is also cost-effective as compared to its counterpart.

There are a couple of things that you need to consider before making a purchase for the oven. Go over proposals offered by various vendors. Here, you may want to use the internet in order to source for different kinds of information. You can also check for reviews available on different sites and shortlist the dealers, who meet your requirements. Once you have done this, you can get in touch with them using the various mediums or you can personally pay them a visit. This kind of research is usually important as it is in making of an informed decision.

Lastly, it is important that you find out about the costs. Each model has its own costs, and thus important to know all the potential costs; this way you can go for what is convenient for your pocket.
