Using Infrared Lamps For Therapy

By Thomas Collins

Infrared lamps are basically devices which emit infrared radiation. They are used for multiple purposes, usually for heating or communication. One very common usage is in the remote control devices and optical fibers. These lamps are also used commonly in night vision devices or the chemical analysis of some gases, as well as liquids.

These lamps transmit infrared light waves into your body, if you use them for your healing. It will feel like a mild heat only, but it is discovered that it can get through all your tissues, improving your blood circulation and oxygenation of the body parts you need to work on.

They look like large and red incandescent bulbs of 250 Watts and most of them can also emit red, orange and yellow light. For the best results, avoid clear and halogen bulbs. What you want is the reddish one, but take note that the bulb's color could vary from yellow to a deep red. Note that you can get a ready-made infrared heat lamp or buy the bulb and socket separately. Use them with great care as they are quite fragile.

Besides their universal use, they can be used at home to treat certain affections. These include pain relief or numerous types of skin condition, among which anti-aging or problems like burns, rashes, wounds, acne or infections. They are easy to set up and the cost is minimal.

For pain relief, make sure you place the lamp to a chair or bed, somewhere easy to access. Sit at least 18-24 inch away from the lamp, using the heat on the side of your body, not above you. Make sure to use eye protection, such as goggles or glasses that can block infrared light. Let the lamp heat the area you need to work on as much as you can tolerate and move slightly every few minutes. You will need to use it for 15 to 20 minutes per session for up to 3 sessions per day, unless you need to use it for your head, when you cannot exceed 10 min per session.

If you need to use it for skin anti-aging, also place it close to a bed or chair that you can use. Stay at around 12 to 22 inch from it and use the lamp for each area for no more than 6 minutes. Repeat the treatment every 2 or 3 days. It is important to leave the skin heal and not use it daily. Also, remember to protect your eyes.

Any other skin issues will be handled in the same way as mentioned above. Note that this lamp can also kill the bacteria that are resistant to antibiotic and this will help with the healing process.

If you are wondering when the results will appear, for pain relief you will start feeling it immediately. For skin issues, it will take a bit more time, but in 1 to 2 weeks you will notice the skin being healthier. Fine lines will start to disappear in the first 2 to 6 weeks. In 4 months you will see a big difference in how your skin looks like and will notice the wrinkles starting to disappear.
